About Katherine Dobbins, Copywriter

Katherine Dobbins is a visionary leader and persuasive communicator who has been recognized for bringing leadership and a teamwork oriented attitude to her experiences in for-profit and non-profit settings.

While a student at University of Tampa, Katherine interned as a part of the creative team at ChappellRoberts, one of Tampa's most respected advertising, public relations and branding agencies. One of her ideas, originally intended to promote ChappellRoberts during a client's luncheon, was so well received and cost-efficient the agency made it one of their permanent branding items.

Katherine was chosen by students and faculty members to lead the founding of University of Tampa's chapter of the American Advertising Federation. Her commitment to the organization, problem solving skills, and ability to motivate others were recognized and she was elected to serve as Tampa Ad Connection's first president.

During Katherine's presidency, Tampa Ad Connection hosted a speaker series that featured a number of Tampa's advertising and public relations leaders. The organization arranged tours that enabled students to gain first-hand knowledge of the industry. Additionally, Tampa Ad Connection won and successfully worked with their first client. The achievements Katherine led Tampa Ad Connection to resulted in their being named University of Tampa's New Student Organization of the Year.

After graduation Katherine volunteered with a national organization whose mission it is to raise the awareness surrounding domestic human trafficking. Katherine used social media to bring Tampa's group from a strictly on-line presence to a physical presence in the community. She was asked by the national office to share her methods with volunteers from around the country. Katherine was also selected by the national office to coordinate volunteer efforts promoting a charity single.

Katherine's demonstrated leadership as a volunteer led to her winning a grant from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development that allowed her to focus her time and efforts on serving her community.

Since the grant's end, Katherine has spent time increasing her knowledge and skill as a web designer. She worked with EventFest during the Gasparilla season, and was able to see how such a massive event is organized and brought together.

Katherine is looking to build her career with a results–driven advertising, public relations, and communications team. Her experience, education, willingness and desire to learn from others, and natural ability to organize and motivate people make her a team player that can be counted on. She can be reached at hellothereKatherine–at–gmail–dot–com.

Tampa Bay Rowdies

The Tampa Bay Rowdies are a member of the United Soccer League First Division. Their first competitive season, since 1993, will be in spring 2010.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies are owned and managed by the Citrus Sports Group. The Citrus Sports Group was founded and is managed by Citrus Ventures.

Owner Andrew Nestor serves as the team’s chief executive. The original Tampa Bay Rowdies were founded as a North American Soccer League expansion franchise in 1975 by George Strawbridge. The team played ten seasons at Tampa Stadium. They won their only Soccer Bowl championship in their inaugural season defeating the Portland Timbers 2–0. The Rowdies lost in the finals in 1978 and 1979.

The team showcased international stars such as midfield captain Rodney Marsh from England, forward Steve Wegerle from South Africa, defenseman Arsene Auguste from Haiti, and high goal-scoring Derek Smethurst from South Africa. Coached by Eddie Firmani, John Boyle, and Gordon Jago, their catch phrase and marketing slogan was, “The Rowdies arrrreeee...a kick in the grass!” After the 1983 season, the team was sold to Stella Thayer, Bob Blanchard and Dick Corbett.

After the demise of the North American Soccer League in 1984, Cornelia Corbett became sole owner of the team in 1986. With Rodney Marsh as coach, the Rowdies operated as an independent team for two years before joining the American Indoor Soccer Association for one season in 1986. In the summer of 1988, the Rowdies joined the third incarnation of the American Soccer League. They would stay in this league and its successor the American Professional Soccer League until they folded after the 1993 season.
